ADDICTION..............What is yours?

We all have them, those over-indulgences, the things, people, places we go to feel better, to fill the void.  One of the best ways to recognize an addiction, they are the things that we always say we'll never do again, or we're done with this, etc. but find our way back to.  The most common that people think about are drugs, alcohol, sex, food.  But what about the ones that almost become diluted as addictions because so many of us do them.  What about our addictions to each other?

We all have or have had that person(s) in our life who when we are with turns everything upside down.  The one that brings chaos and happiness into your life, a short little conversation or interaction with them, everything seems fine, the waters are calm and then you get together or spend more time talking and the next thing you know, the waters are crashing around you.  This can be a lover, child, friend, family member, co-worker, but they are around you.  They suck you in by making you feel needed, making you feel important and usually once they suck you in it's too late and by the end you have found yourself lost and even more insecure.  This is so evident and real when you are a dealing with a drug addict or an alcoholic, but I have dealt with and witnessed the same dynamics with friends and family members.

My two biggest addictions in my life at one point...my career and a family member whose personal addiction and insecurities took front seat in my life....(iMPORTANT........MY CHOICE). I lived well over 15 years trying to please, fix others and impress all along hoping to cover up my pain of not feeling worthy enough.  I gave up my job, overlooked some really amazing people, pushed others right out of the picture and in the process lost myself completely.  As you can read from the quote I didn't love myself and I put myself in a position to lose and ultimately I lost a lot.

HOWEVER, you can always rewrite the future.  The key to your happiness always will and always have resided inside of you.  Focus on what is good for you, what makes you happy and whole and set your sights on obtaining and keeping only those desires.  It took me a long time to figure this out, but now I know how to pick and choose what and who is going to be a priority in my life........ME and I'm happier for it.
